Cybernetic's faculty

The faculty of Cybernetics (now official name is the faculty of cybernetics of Taras Shevchenko national university of Kiev) opened in Kyiv university in May 1969 (order of minister № 258 from 6-th of May 1969; order of rector of Kyiv University №104 from 19 of June 1969)

In 60-ies of XX century Kyiv became a centre of development and production computer technology, that has been created in Institute of Cybernetics NAS of Ukraine and has been serially produced at the factory of computing and control machines, special construction departments. It was begun a sharp increase of specialist - software developers, experts in numerical optimization methods, databases, information systems and their applications . System approach to organization and development of computer infrastructure activated a necessity of training. That’s why it was opened the Faculty of Cybernetics in Kyiv University – first faculty of appropriate profile in the former USSR. It absorbed specialties of computer type, Mechanics and Mathematics, economic and philological departments.

Now the faculty consist of 9 chairs: computational mathematics, complicated system’s modeling, operation research, theoretical cybernetics, theory and technology of programming, mathematical informatics, system analysis and decision making, information systems, applied statistics, where employing 102 lecturers ( 19 professors and Doctors of Science, 59 docents and Candidates of science). Research part of faculty has 4 research laboratories: computational methods in continuum mechanics, modeling and optimization, high performance data processing systems, probabilistic-statistical methodsand 3 research sectors: theoretical cybernetics, programming problems, problems of system analysiswhere employing 78 scientists ( 6 Doctors of Science, 31 Candidates of science). There are approximately 900 students and above 90 postgraduates and Doctorates who studies at the faculty.

Faculty trains specialists in such areas : applied mathematics, informatics, system analysis, program engineering. Training of faculty with international standards and based on the fundamental preparation of mathematics and informatics and also at modern data equipment. Over the years the faculty was prepared approximately 6 thousands specialists in cybernetic sphere, approximately 400 Candidates of science and 60 Doctors of Science.

Basic scientific and technological achievements of the Faculty of Cybernetics:
  • In the field of mathematics:
    • created a general mathematical theory and numerical methods for solving nonconvex optimization of linear systems;
    • constructive theory of minimax estimation and prediction under uncertainty;
    • developed models and algorithms for risk analysis and optimization of complex systems;
    • developed methods of multicriteria games;
    • developed a theory of asymptotic analysis of stochastic models;
    • developed a theory of asymmetric partition;
    • investigated the fundamental invariants and maximum livotopolohichnyh indecomposable groups;
    • solved problem of Comfort-Mila about absolutely folding groups;
  • In the field of informatics:
    • developed encryption information methods using the theory of cyclic lattices;
    • obtained fundamental mathematical results with the general theory interaction agents and environments;
    • created models and methods for planning and search strategies management logical inference in intelligent systems;
    • investigated Software algebra composite type and nonclassical logic, task-oriented semantics of modern programming languages;
    • advanced programming technology PARCS;
    • developed theory of dynamical coalitional systems of protection information wiht the shared keys;
    • developed semantic parser-texts natural language.
  • In the field of applied aspects:
    • developed ecological-economic and economic-environmental classes of models of sustainable development;
    • solved urgent problems of optimal control, parameterization and regularization of linear distributed systems;
    • developed methods of Mark evoluation for important applications models;
    • found conditions of existence of steady state for Jackson network of special type;
    • found the estimation of parameters of wear using the method of moments;
    • got the estimations of the intensities of incoming flows and distribution functions values jumping;
    • developed theory of features targeted for use in bioinformatytsi;
    • developed the experimental system for modeling and synthesis of facial expressions of the human face in the implementation process of language;
    • developed software systems distance education;
    • created the faculty computer network;

Department maintains close research and teaching links with leading Ukrainian and foreign educational and scientific institutions, such as: Cybernetic Center of NAS of Ukraine, National Technical University of Ukraine "KPI", Lviv National University of Ivan Franko, National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", Volyn State University of Lesya Ukrainka, Moscow State University of M.V. Lomonosov, Computing Centre and the Institute of Applied Mathematics RAS, Belarusian State University, Leipzig University, Berlin Academy of Sciences Institute of Mathematics, Warsaw Technical University, Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA, Australia), Yyellsky University and University of Pennsylvania (USA).
